What is Sublimation Printing?

Sublimation printing is a type of digital printing process that uses heat and pressure to transfer dye onto a substrate, typically a polyester material. Sublimation printing is unique in that it allows for full-color, photographic-quality images to be printed onto the material, resulting in a high-quality, long-lasting print.

The sublimation printing process works by first printing the image onto a special transfer paper using dye sublimation inks. The transfer paper is then placed onto the substrate and heat and pressure are applied, causing the ink to turn into a gas and permeate the surface of the material. The ink then solidifies and becomes a permanent part of the material, resulting in a vibrant, high-resolution image.

Sublimation printing is ideal for printing onto polyester fabrics and other coated substrates, such as ceramic mugs or phone cases. It is not suitable for natural fibers, such as cotton or wool, as the dye does not bond to these materials in the same way.

One of the advantages of sublimation printing is that it produces a long-lasting, durable print that will not fade, crack or peel over time. This makes it ideal for printing onto products that will be exposed to frequent use and wear, such as custom apparel, promotional products, and signage.

Overall, sublimation printing is a versatile, high-quality printing process that produces vibrant, long-lasting prints suitable for a wide range of applications.
